Thank you social media!

In the years gone by, being able to ask a huge number of people for advice about baby stuff was near impossible. Now, I can pop a post on facebook and overnight I have a whole lot of great tips from friends and family, helping me work out the latest difficulty.
Ruby's gums were torturing her so I posted on facebook and was given all sorts of suggestions. Some I had tried, some not.

  • Ring teethers for fridge
  • Amberock/Mummarocks necklaces
  • Frozen peas to chew
  • Rusks
  • Panadol or Nurofen
  • Ashton and Parsons tablets / teething tablets
  • Lots of cuddles!

So this morning I went down to the chemist to get some Bonjela, but the pharmacist recommended Medijel instead. When I got home, I put some on Ruby's gums with my finger and then about 5 minutes later started readying her for a nap. She went down easily!
I can only hope that it keeps helping and that it wasn't just pot luck! :)

Happy New Year everyone!!

45 minute madness!

A night feed followed by a 7.30am feed led to 6 hours of awake time broken up by one 45 minute nap today. This is NOT normal for poppet, who just did not want to sleep in her cot today.
Team work had me with Ruby for 3.5 hours with the 45 minute nap, followed by Greg with Ruby for another 2 hours before swapping again.
Finally, after gallons of milk, she finally fell asleep at just before 2pm and is still asleep now, almost 2.5 hours later.
I am so blaming it on those dreaded gums.
I need to go to the library and borrow 'Save Our Sleep' again to see if there is anything in there about sleep and teething.

Meanwhile, we are having so much fun watching Ruby in her new Jolly Jumper! She loves moving those legs so I thought I'd see how she went in one and it is so funny! She loves it!

Teeth.... Teeth.... Sleep?

Ahh poor poppet!
She was so tired last night but her gums were causing her so much angst she simply couldn't get to sleep. So instead, she cried.
I was hoping some teeth would be there come morning, but nope, not out yet. It can't be much longer - they have been bothering her for such a long time.
I found that the best thing to help ease her discomfort was a dose of 'Infant's Friend'. It's really very good stuff and about 15 minutes later she was sleeping peacefully. Mind you, this was 2 hours past her regular bedtime which is 7pm!
With Christmas and Boxing Day and then painful gums day, she hasn't been to bed on time for 3 nights.
Hopefully she doesn't think this is the new plan...!!!

Bare Bots!

Hi and welcome to Bare Bots!
I am always astonished by the gorgeous wonderful things I learn each day as a new mother so I thought I would start a blog to share some of them with you.

My beautiful daughter, Ruby Jane, is now 5 1/2 months old and has just celebrated her first Christmas.
It was so lovely to enjoy Christmas from a new perspective, having for the past few years seen it more as an obligation to go from one family house to the next, to be on time, to try to get through the food and then to finally get home.

Plotting to take over Christmas....
Not so with a baby!
With a baby you don't even think about yourself as part of the Christmas equation.

  1. When will they be able to have naps?
  2. Will we be able to visit everyone so even family members who haven't met our daughter yet can do so?
  3. What happens at the end of the day when she konks out?
  4. Where will she sleep?
  5. Will she settle???

The long drive to Pakenham proved helpful as 2 nice sleep opportunities for Ruby but then at the last house (3 in total) at the end of the day, the stimulus seemed too much as a wide eyed little poppet couldn't down enough milk to make those eyelids drop.

We had done well. She was showered with beautiful gifts; clothes and bedding mainly; and she behaved well. But by 8.30pm we knew she was just not going to retire for the night unless we got her home and away from the bustle.

Once home, she drank the last of her milk and her eyelids surely did drop without resistance as she moved from Christmas day to Christmas dreams of new faces, lots of kisses, laughter and a new audience for her hideous new screeching talent.

Christmas is fun again!
